Long famous for its opera, popolar songs and regional folk tunes, the Italian tradition also boasts a serious song literature. These underappreciated songs rival acknowledged French and German masterpieces while maintaining a unique Italianismo.
Often based on highly sophisticated poetry and utilizing advanced musical idioms and harmonies, the songs require subtle interpretations that wed the words to the music.
Multimedia presentation places the words of the song in high relief and the accompanying artwork introduces the themes of the song, enhancing their special impact.
